Botanical name
Chimonobambusa marmorea Variegata.
Origin
Japan.
Characteristics
Most attractive with white striping on some of the light green leaves. The graceful culms turn red in sunlight. Growing to 2 m, slightly more in good soil. Unusual also as this bamboo sends up the new shoots in Autumn rather than springtime. The culm sheaths have a marbling pattern.
Use
Growing next to a pathway or as a low hedge, can be trimmed as leaning culms intrude. Beautiful in containers, remember to keep moist. As cut foliage in flower arrangements, the new shoots are used as they are long lasting.
Requirements
Likes a cool situation. Heavy shade will adversely affect foliage. Needs constant moisture. |
