Botanical name
Pseudosasa amabilis.
Origin
China.
Characteristics
Grows 14 m. high and 50 mm in diameter. Dense feathery foliage. The culms are quite straight.
Use
Grow a grove next to some water. Your private lake perhaps. As a tall privacy screen in a narrow site, it ranks along with Temple Bamboo. It does well in containers. Also used for split cane fishing rods and numerous crafts.
Requirements
The Tea Stick Bamboo in the above right photograph is situated near a pond. Reflected in the water, I have two groves of Tea Stick Bamboo. Near water is where it can achieve its maximum growth. |

Interest
A lovely bamboo with vertical culms and lazy green leaves.
How fast will it grow?
Our Bamboo
Growth Simulation gizmo shows you the rate of growth starting off
with a small plant. Of course, growth rate depends a lot on climate, food
and water.
Small bamboo plants are slow to get going, so starting off with a bigger
plant will get you there much faster. Also, using the gizmo will show you the
eventual, un-trimmed shape in outline for this species. |
