Botanical name
Phyllostachys bambusiodes Castilloni.

Origin
China.

Characteristics
Castilloni is a very special bamboo. Golden yellow stems streaked with green. Lustrous leaves haphazardly variegated with cream strips. Castilloni grows 10 - 20 m. tall. It grows as cold as Beijing in sheltered positions.

Use
Castilloni will give you a dense privacy screen. You'll feel better if it's growing in an "escape proof" planter or isolated from the ground. As a potted plant it can be rotated indoors. Periodically take indoor plants outside for a good hose down, this cleans out the breathing pores. But do it on a cloudy day or in the shade otherwise the sun will burn the leaves.

Requirements
Grows in any kind of location but thrives in rich soil.

Fine print on Castilloni Bamboo
Local government regulations prohibit the stocking & sale of the Phyllostachys genus of bamboo from our Terrey Hills nursery because of its invasive nature.

So you want an explanation, is it?
Here are submissions from Mr Bamboo to the NSW Department of Primary Industries, Noxious Weeds Committee, on behalf of the many species of Phyllostachys.
Can’t imagine that anyone would actually want to read these boring submissions. We post them here for your reference. If you wish to purchase any Phyllostachys say, Castilloni Bamboo simply use our on-line order form instead.
Or feel free to phone us on (02) 9486 3604 to discuss further. Also you can contact us with any query you might have.

Interest
It will look good in the corner of a big garden, grows tall with a diameter of up to 5 - 6 cm. It will reach half that size (about 3 cm) if grown in a large pot.

How fast will it grow?
Our Bamboo Growth Simulation gizmo shows you the rate of growth starting off with a small plant. Of course, growth rate depends a lot on climate, food and water.

Small bamboo plants are slow to get going, so starting off with a bigger plant will get you there much faster. Also, using the gizmo will show you the eventual, un-trimmed shape in outline for this species.
