"China's Hometown of Bamboo".
Anji County is famous for growing bamboo. The county leads China in bamboo reserves and annual output volume.
Bamboo poles harvested from the hills of Anji County supply thousands of small and not so small factories producing a huge range of useful products - from building materials and scaffolding, to furniture, food (especially bamboo shoots) and medicines. Even the scrap is utilised.
The main species used here is Moso, Phyllostachys heterocycla var. pubescens.
Anji bamboo products are exported worldwide
Human influence over a long period of traditional use has extended the natural pockets of bamboo into the vast swathes which now clothe the hills and mountain slopes of Anji County. Bamboo has been encouraged throughout designated areas and is grown in what are essentially 'forest gardens'. My secret plan for Sydney.
