Let’s lay down a few rules here shall we? A few laws for bamboo. WATER,
FERTILISER AND DRAINAGE. Not a lot to do for a mortal but a giant leap for bamboo kind. While we’re about it a few pearls of wisdom on behalf of you, the master
of your bamboo. Remember to confine running bamboo to pots or ‘escape proof’ containers
AND remove old and untidy growth. You’ll be so glad you did.

Among cultures who live with and use bamboo it has become more like a generous friend
than a useful plant.
The open hearted generosity of the late Koichiro Ueda, Emeritus Professor at Kyoto University, opened the doors to bamboo for me and to many others.
His advice and teaching was given in the true spirit of bamboo.
The directness of his talks never strayed far from the basic
requirements for growth, which are, air, water and warmth. Too little or too much of any of these three basic elements can harm or kill the plant.
